Ginger has been using her freer summer days to try out new recipes. Specifically, cupcake recipes. Ginger has a passion for cupcakes.
In the past, I’ve tried to steer her to recipe books, but she prefers to gather her recipes online. A recent discovery, Sally’s Baking Addiction, yielded a good recipe for frosting: Favorite Vanilla Buttercream. Ginger used this to decorate her most recent batch of cupcakes.
Not content to use the “old-fashioned” blob of frosting spread with a butter knife method, Ginger has been practicing frosting cupcakes with a decorating bag and a star tip to get a kind of rose effect. I have to admit these turned out lovely, and I was surprised to find the decorating bag was as little work as the old butter-knife method. I’m sure similar cupcakes will make a debut at our church’s coffee hour soon!
A quick shift in topics – have you noticed that the Fall decor is going up in stores?
Ginger and I visited JoAnns yesterday and were shocked to see pumpkins, leaves, and pheasants on prominent display. “Fourth of July is over, Mom,” Ginger explained. “Of course they’re going to be thinking about Fall now.” Yikes!
As premature as it seems, I do confess to feeling a small thrill at seeing Fall colors again. They’re my favorites, and, while I do enjoy summer, I love Fall.
From the dining room table, on a rainy Friday morning that even feels a bit like Fall…it’s barely 60 degrees and isn’t expected to hit 70 today!
